In a swift and coordinated effort, the Indian government successfully evacuated 110 Indian students stranded in conflict-hit Iran, including 90 from Jammu and Kashmir. The evacuation took place on the night of June 18, 2025, with the students boarding an IndiGo flight from Doha to Delhi.
This rescue operation was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The Jammu and Kashmir Students' Association (JKSA) expressed deep gratitude, calling the intervention a major relief for worried families.
JKSA noted that the evacuation was smooth and praised the government's commitment to repatriate remaining students soon. All travel expenses, including connecting flights to Srinagar, were covered by the Union government to ensure a stress-free return.
Most of the evacuees were students at Urmia Medical University. They were safely moved through Armenia amid escalating tensions caused by the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.
The students’ arrival in Delhi was scheduled for 10:15 PM, with relatives and friends waiting to welcome them.
Nasir Khuehami, national convenor of JKSA, credited the Indian consulate in Bandar Abbas for working closely with Iranian authorities to facilitate the operation.
This successful evacuation underscores India’s dedication to protecting its citizens abroad, even under the most challenging global circumstances.
