Home Minister Amit Shah has tweeted, "Ministry of Home Affairs has decided only indigenous products will be sold at all CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) canteens from 1st June, 2020."
This comes a day after PM Narendra Modi made an appeal to encourage local products and make India "self-reliant".
Shah has also said, "I request all citizens to use indigenous products. If every Indian pledges to use products made in India (Swadeshi), the country can become self-sufficient in five years." A Home Ministry statement said that the 50 lakh family members of about 10 lakh CAPF personnel will only use indigenous products. The CAPFs -- CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG and Assam Rifles -- canteens together sell products worth about Rs 2,800 crore annually.
