The integration marks a step towards conversational commerce, allowing business teams to analyse collections, settlements, refunds and subscriptions while keeping payment execution and financial controls within the existing gateway infrastructure.
Paytm Payments Services Limited (PPSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Paytm (One 97 Communications Limited), has launched the Paytm Payment Gateway Plugin for OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The integration enables businesses to access and interpret authorised payment information through conversational prompts, reducing the need to switch between dashboards, reports and other payment management tools.
The plugin is aimed at founders, finance teams and business operations teams that regularly monitor payment activity. Users can ask questions about transactions and business trends directly within ChatGPT. For instance, founders can check how many payment links issued during a particular period have been paid, while finance teams can review collections and settlement status. Operations teams can also track refunds or subscriptions using natural-language queries.
Built on model context protocol
The integration is built using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which connects authorised merchant payment information with ChatGPT. Paytm said developers can use the plugin to create AI-led payment and business workflows within ChatGPT, potentially reducing the requirement for multiple standalone integrations.
Access to payment information is protected through authentication and remains under the merchant’s control. The integration currently operates on a read-only basis, meaning it can retrieve authorised payment information but cannot initiate payments, issue refunds or transfer funds. Payment execution continues through the Paytm Payment Gateway under the merchant’s control.
Paytm Payment Gateway spokesperson said, "Businesses need answers on their payments as quickly as they ask for them. This integration allows a founder, a CEO or a developer to check transactions, refunds and settlements directly inside ChatGPT, with the same security their business already trusts."
Expanding AI-driven payment workflows
The launch extends Paytm Payment Gateway’s existing capabilities across payment links, subscriptions, refunds, settlements and business reporting into a conversational AI environment. The company said the integration provides a standardised foundation for businesses looking to develop AI-first workflows for payments and finance.
With the plugin, merchants can use conversational queries alongside existing dashboards and APIs, giving business users another way to retrieve payment information while keeping actual payment execution within Paytm’s established payment infrastructure.
