On March 8, on account of International Women’s Day, Puducherry Transport Minister Chandira Priyanga appeared in a video dressed up as an amman or goddess. The video soon went viral on social media. The video received a lot of acclaim for the purpose of the film, but it also met with criticism.
The minister is first shown being bedecked with flower petals and her aarti taken in the dramatic pictures, which are infused with computer graphics. She dresses up and wears heavy gold jewelry later in life to look like a goddess. This is a tribute to all the woman goddesses who serve the world as a mother, wife, and companion.
“I wanted to do something different than write a general post wishing women well on International Women's Day. And it's not like putting just another make-up artist on your skin. As I think of eating non-vegetarian foods as a sacred thing, I stopped eating them. I know there will be some negative feedback, but I don't care about it,” the minister said.
Since the union territory was established in 1954, Priyanga, 33, is the second female minister in a Puducherry cabinet. In 2021, she was elected on an AINRC ticket from Nedungadu's reserved constituency.
The minister has also appeared in short films like Jhansi to raise funds for child sexual harassment.
