The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to launch its brand-new e-Aadhaar mobile app by December 2025, aiming to provide citizens with a faster, safer, and more user-friendly digital identity solution. This next-generation app promises to redefine how millions of Indians access, manage, and verify their Aadhaar card online.
Key Features of the New e-Aadhaar App
Unlike the existing mAadhaar app, the upgraded UIDAI e-Aadhaar app will integrate artificial intelligence (AI), Face ID authentication, and QR code verification for enhanced security. With Face ID login, users can access their Aadhaar account by simply scanning their face—eliminating the need for OTPs and passwords. The built-in QR scanner will allow for instant Aadhaar verification, reducing the risks of fraudulent identity misuse.
Users will be able to:
- Download Aadhaar card instantly within the app.
- Update personal details like name, address, and date of birth.
- Review Aadhaar update history for transparency.
- Order PVC Aadhaar cards online for doorstep delivery.
- Share Aadhaar securely through encrypted online channels, avoiding photocopy misuse.
- Aadhaar Mobile Number Updates Still Offline
While most Aadhaar services are moving online, UIDAI has clarified that mobile number updates will remain an offline process. Citizens must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra, submit a correction form, and undergo biometric verification. This measure is vital for safeguarding banking, government, and financial transactions linked to Aadhaar.
Expert Opinion on Digital Identity Security
According to digital identity and cybersecurity expert Dr. Anshul Verma, “The new e-Aadhaar app will simplify Aadhaar management while significantly boosting data security. Features like AI-powered Face ID and QR-based verification are essential steps toward India’s digital future. Keeping mobile number updates offline ensures strong protection against identity theft.”
The beta version of the e-Aadhaar app was unveiled earlier in April 2025 by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and UIDAI has since been refining the platform based on user feedback. The final rollout in December 2025 will address glitches reported in the older mAadhaar app, offering a modern, AI-driven experience.
A Major Leap in India’s Digital Identity Journey
This launch aligns with Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, strengthening the country’s secure digital infrastructure. With advanced AI authentication, Aadhaar QR verification, and Face ID login, the new UIDAI app is set to make identity management seamless for millions of citizens—without long queues at Aadhaar centers.
