Elon Musk’s X is preparing to bring its standalone messaging app XChat to Android devices, offering encrypted chats, disappearing messages, large group conversations and other privacy-focused features aimed at competing with popular messaging platforms.
X is preparing to expand its standalone messaging platform XChat to Android users after initially launching the application for Apple’s iOS ecosystem earlier this year. The company has confirmed that Android users can now pre-register for the app through the Google Play Store ahead of its official rollout.
While the company has not yet announced a confirmed launch date for Android devices, the move signals X’s broader effort to strengthen its ecosystem beyond social networking and transform the platform into a more integrated communication service.
According to details available on the Play Store listing, XChat is designed as a dedicated messaging platform focused on private and secure conversations. The company describes the app as ad-free, tracking-free and fully end-to-end encrypted, placing strong emphasis on user privacy.
Privacy features positioned against WhatsApp
XChat introduces several features commonly found in popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp while also adding new privacy-oriented controls. Users will be able to send disappearing messages, secure chats using PIN protection and block screenshots within conversations.
The app also supports editing or deleting sent messages, along with audio and video calling across multiple devices. Users can create large group chats with up to 481 members and share high-resolution photos, videos and large files directly through the platform.
The company claims that privacy remains central to the XChat experience, as competition among messaging applications increasingly shifts toward security and encrypted communication features.
Unlike several standalone messaging platforms that require separate registrations, XChat will allow users to sign in directly using their existing X accounts. This means users can connect with friends, creators, colleagues and family members already present within the X ecosystem without needing to exchange phone numbers or send separate invitations.
X continues building ‘Everything App’ vision
Industry analysts see XChat as part of Elon Musk’s larger ambition to transform X into an “everything app” combining social media, payments, communication and digital services within a single platform.
The launch of a dedicated messaging application could help X compete more directly with established communication services while also encouraging users to spend more time inside its ecosystem.
As the Android rollout approaches, the success of XChat may depend on whether users view it as a genuine alternative to existing platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal, all of which already dominate the global messaging market.
With privacy, encryption and integrated communication becoming key priorities for users, X appears to be positioning XChat as a major part of its next phase of platform expansion.
